Autumn is the perfect time for a photoshoot! The cool, crisp air and the vibrant Autumn leaves make for some beautiful scenery. When it comes to what to wear for your Autumn photoshoot, there are a few things to keep in mind.

1 . Where will your photos be displayed?

Have a think about where you are going to display your portraits. You’re likely to want to hang them on the walls of your home for years to come. So this is why the careful forethought you put into deciding what to wear is so important. The colour scheme you choose for your shoot, will pay off for the many happy years your portraits are on display in your home.

2 . Comfort is key.

Arguably, the most important thing to remember is to wear what is comfortable and makes you feel at ease. You want these photos to showcase you & your families personality and style. Please keep this in mind, as if you aren't comfortable on the day of your photoshoot, you are unlikely to enjoy the experience and we want your pictures to reflect a happy time!

3 . Colour palettes.

Brown and bronze are a given, but there are also often lots of lovely pinks, reds and oranges around at Autumn. So pick colours that are going to compliment the background. Neutrals like beige, cream and browns are probably going to work well with most backgrounds. Navy blue and Grey can also be fantastic options.

When you are deciding what to wear to your Autumn Family Photoshoot, don’t shy away from brighter colours like oranges, mustard yellows, berry shades, forest greens and reds which also work brilliantly against most Autumn backdrops and add a gorgeous pop of colour too!

4 . Layer up!

Let’s face it, we don’t always know exactly what the weather will throw at us- this is England! I always suggest layering up when choosing your outfits for your photoshoot. Long-sleeved shirts, jumpers, scarves and coats can all be added too, or discarded depending what the weather is like on the day. Chunky knits and tweeds can create texture, adding visual interest. All of these can bring variety to your final gallery.

5 . Plan ahead of time.

Taking a few minutes to plan outfits out in advance has a few advantages. Firstly, seeing everyone's clothes laid out together can really help you envision how everything will come together on the day. If you can wrangle everyone to try it all on - bonus! Checking items fit properly will be an even bigger flex, meaning no last minute stress on that day so you can really enjoy the experience!

6 . Little accessories can make a big difference!

Headbands, scarves, hats, gloves, oversized earrings can all make a big difference. Again these items can be added and discarded between shots to add variety. Careful accessorising can pull a whole outfit together!

Forever in favour of keeping things simple - It can help to find one key piece of clothing and dress the rest of the family around that.  So if a child has a favourite clothing item, or you have a particular outfit you love, use this as your starting point and work around it.

So there we have it, a simple wardrobe guide for Autumn.
